I’m an artist who paints a wide range of subjects using oil paint as the medium of choice. I hold a B.S. degree in Fine Art with a background that combines fine art, illustration and design. After studying many mediums and styles of painting and sculpture, I now work primarily in oil utilizing some of the traditional techniques of old world master painters. My detailed realistic style achieves a unique quality of depth and richness of color, drawing the viewer into his paintings.

I have a deep interest in and fascination for the creative process. For me I’m not sure where or when the process actually begins. Perhaps it starts with that first hint of inspiration. Or maybe not even until the first stroke of a brush hits the painting surface. But when the process starts there’s not doubt about it. I just go with it.

Inspiration for me comes from many different directions and sources. It could be anything from life experiences, the materials I use, music or even from other artists. When I view the world around me everything is a potential work of art. In my mind I’m constantly painting my surroundings. Always asking what colors do I need to mix in order to accurately render what I see.

As far as finding my artistic voice, I think perhaps I found it from a combination of life experiences, my interests and opening up and trying different directions. For the most part I mostly created art based on my interests and as a result my artistic voice just kind of showed itself without me really realizing it. I didn’t really think in terms of having a artistic voice per say. I just knew that I enjoyed what I was doing and that’s all that mattered.

I earned an Associates degree in Printing Technology from Chowan College in Murfreesboro, N.C. and transferring to Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C. where I completed my Bachelors degree in Fine Art.

In addition to formal education, in 1997 I had the opportunity to attend a six day wildlife artist workshop in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with artists Robert Bateman and Stephen Quiller. In 2005 I visit Florence, Italy to study at Centro Koinè and gain a greater appreciation for the Italian language, art and culture.
