I believe that flowers are a love gift from God. They are a venue for every kind of celebration, special dates on the calendar and also used in times of sorrow. They represent a gift that is always appreciated by the receiver as their beauty and uniqueness make a statement.

 

 

I like to paint flowers because they amaze me. If I can capture even a small refection of their beauty, I am satisfied.

 

 

As an artist painting in oils in the Renaissance style of painting, the technique of layering color alternating between dark and light layers of paint until you obtain the light and transparency desired, gives me the tools to bring flowers to life.

 

 

Being an artist has been joyful as well as being difficult at times. With all the various styles of art represented in the world today I want to present work that will be appreciated and enjoyed and sought out by the public. I am currently experimenting with a little different style, using the same color palette but with a more “modern” look to it.

 

 

I am also currently working on a series of smaller canvases that are more affordable. Most artists work in their studio in privacy and speaking for myself, I want to just paint and create. However, as artists we must market ourselves, a very difficult endeavor for me.

 

 

I go out in the field during blooming times, take hundreds of photos and then sort and review to determine which ones I want to paint. I always take close up shots to make sure I can see all the detail in the flower as I want to make sure I represent the flower correctly.

 

 

I then spend time determining the size of the canvas and which photos give the best view of the particular flower. After many years of aggressively taking photos of flowers, I finally have enough photos to enable me to work for years without taking any more photos.

 

 

I was pleased to get a commission for painting a horse that belonged to a friend of mine. I had never painted a horse before and got some books and did some research on painting animals. The horse was white in color, and I love to paint objects in white because of all the layers of bright colors that go underneath the highlights. My client was very happy with the final painting and I was pleased to be done painting all the tiny hairs!

 

 

Bottom line, I want to paint in order to bring joy to the owner of my painting.
