I am currently an Alternative Education math & science teacher in the Youth Detention Center. In 2004, in my classroom on a snow day, only one of my students showed up for school. So to pass the time, I started to paint my rendition of the kids as “Alternative Animals”, I painted my coworkers and my principal (as the Orange Monkey).
It started out as just for fun and the ball began rolling from there. Most of my characters are people I know and love, especially my dog Benny who recently died. I love colors and I am not a very serious person at all.
My artwork is just like me, bright, whimsical and fun. The best part is the sparkle. I hand embellish each print, t shirt and magnet with shimmering glitter.
My goals for the future include expanding my wholesale business. I recently attended AmericasMart International Gift & Home Furnishings Market in Atlanta and it was the most amazing show I have ever seen! I will be returning to the Handmade Section in July 2012.
Until then I am planning on continuing the regional Art Show circuit I have been participating for the past two years. My ultimate goal is to grow my business and produce my artwork full time….which is coming soon!
