Love+Peace

Love + Peace, Acrylic/Mixed Media, 32″ x 40″

My first oil painting I did at the age of 15. I was always interested in portraying people, human relationships and interactions. More interested in the philosophical and emotional side of  imagery, I was and am using media to express my feeling rather than narrating it.

Colors in my painting are my subjective expression of the object rather than an objective representation of it.  As many artists who were in the field for long time, I experiment and try almost all traditional and new media, including sculpture and encaustic. However, my most favorite media are oil and acrylic with experimentation in mixed media.

Fashion Show

“Fashion Show” Acrylic on Paper, 30″ x 22″

I am mainly presenting works completed in 2011 – 2012.  I am re-working many of them to bring them to up to date. Like other forms of art such as music, fashion,  architecture,  industrial design, etc are timely evolving in appearance, visual art is not different.

Crowd

“Crowd” Oil on Canvas, 20″ x 24″

During my artistic practice I usually keep a few of the most successful ones from each period/year they are sold, and the rest I keep working on. It makes sense to me as the number of my works doesn’t grow much (space and budget are also factors), and I stay more contemporary.

Coming To ...

“Coming To…” Acrylic/Mixed Media, 32″ x 40″

I have paintings in the museums in Armenia and in corporate collections in Russia that were bought at the annual competition salons, and I definitely do not want to, and hope my work is not the same as they were 30 years ago regardless how good they were. I have a website where I keep samples of my academic works, but many of them soon will be gone too. In 2013, I started a new direction  that I’ll be pushing to the max of its expressiveness. The most important thing at this point is that, after I as a single mother have raised three wonderful and successful children, I have finally a time and a place to commit myself to my work.

Dancers in Pink Light

“Dancers in Pink Light” Acrylic on Paper, 30″ x 22″

In my more recent works I am, while staying faithful to the abstract expressionistic style, more interested in the philosophical aspect of the imagery. In the series of my recent acrylic/mixed media paintings I try to state my position, define my identity for myself, and find and express a deeper meaning for me beyond the simple passion for art.

Mother and Child (after McCurry)

“Mother and Child” (after McCurry) Acrylic on Paper, 24″ x 19″

I have a long list of local and international shows. My paintings are in many private and corporate collections in the US, Australia, India, Canada, and France. Prior to my emigration to the US in 1991, I was an elected member of the (former) Art Union of USSR, and an art instructor at the Yerevan State College of Arts.

On Her Way

“On Her Way” Mixed media, 30 x 40″

I received my MFA from the Academy of Art University of San Francisco, California,  and have a BA from the Yerevan State Academy of Arts, Armenia. In the spring of 2013, I completed  M.Ed in Content Area from the Marylhurst University, Marylhurst, Oregon. My past one man show was this March at the Streff Gallery, Marylhurst, OR, and recently four of my works were accepted at the juried show and will be on display from June 11th – August 2nd , 2013 at the Gresham City Hall Gallery, Gresham,  Oregon.

  5. Dear Robin,
    I truly appreciate your words!
I will do my best not to disappoint all who supported me on the way by believing in me, admiring and collecting my art.

  6. Hadas Tal says

    Hi Amalya,
Beautiful work – keep up the good battle!
    Hadas

  7. Amalya, I love your new work because it is so kinetic. You are expressing 3 dimensional motion with 2 dimensional media. Through the motion we see the light, which depicts the emotion of the images.
I wish that I could see the work in person, but this still comes through in the pictures I am looking at.
