C'est Tres Cool

“C’est Tres Cool” Watercolor, Gouache, Digital, 12″ x 16″

I paint primarily in watercolor and gouache, occasionally including colored pencil or ink, and I love to focus on detail. I now digitally arrange my compositions after scanning in the hand-painted elements, to make it more practical for licensing my work to product manufacturers, and I’ve recently begun to play with digital overlays of my hand-painted backgrounds as well.

Danse ma Belle

“Danse ma Belle” Watercolor, Gouache, Digital, 12″ x 16″

One of my goals for 2013 is to learn how to make repeating patterns too. But my true love is to paint by hand, and animals are always my favorite inspiration. I raise my own small flock of chickens, and they offer me never-ending entertainment and poses to choose from. I find myself going for a certain unexplainable, often humorous, look in an animal’s eye – it is difficult to describe, but I “know it when I see it.”

Cabernet

“Cabernet”, Watercolor, Gouache, Digital, 12″ x 16″

In 2012 I stumbled upon the world of art licensing, and immediately knew that I was born to work in the business. I’m taking to it “like a duck to water” and I’m thrilled with the feedback I have gotten so far. I’m in this for keeps! My work is now available for licensing through my wonderful agent Carol White of Artworks! Licensing , and I credit her for all sorts of new leads with manufacturers – she featured my work recently at the SURTEX trade show in May, and I have very high hopes for my new career.

Raccoon and Chipmunks

“Raccoon and Chipmunks”, Watercolor, Gouache, Digital, 10″ x 10″

Currently I am working on creating additional humorous rooster images as companions to my existing collection, and I have just finished a brand-new collection of whimsical snowman images, with foxes, raccoons, chipmunks and chickadees.

Snowman and Fox 2

“Snowman and Fox 2”, Watercolor, Gouache, Digital 16″ x 16″

I am a self-taught artist, but all that really means is that my love of painting and drawing compels me to spend hours and hours practicing it. (I think this practice is what becomes known as “talent” after a few years of it!) I grew up on a small farm here in Vermont, but I’ve spent much of my adult life in other parts of the country, working many other jobs that had nothing to do with art.

Coq au Vin

“Coq au Vin”, Watercolor, Gouache, Digital, 12″ x 16″

A few years ago I was blessed and fortunate enough to move back here to a small homestead, live the farm life again, and follow my dream of painting full time. I feel a profound gratitude for the life I have been privileged to experience.
