Enjoy the fascinating portfolio of featured artist Regina Davis Izaguirre, whose work is inspired by spiritual and emotional contemplation.

Meditation

“Meditation” oil on canvas, 28″ x 22″

What are your goals?

I want to create a sense of contemplation. As many artists, our main stream of communication is silent but very emotionally powerful. Art allows us to access more difficult emotions, those which we cannot even describe to ourselves.

Only Human

“Only Human” oil on round canvas, 20″ diameter

My goal is to connect with people through their psyche in a spiritual manner, in which they can find within themselves a dogmatic question and make a way to self-discovery.

After Darkness (I Hope for) Light

“After Darkness (I Hope for) Light” oil on canvas, 40″ x 30″

What are you working on now?

I am still wandering around art symbolism, specially playing with that which is divine and profane and trying to comulgate each other in a painting.

The Encounter

“The Encounter” oil on canvas, 30″ x 40″

Maybe because I was raised in such a strict Catholic environment and I am trying to define myself through painting my journey through hopes and doubts.

Oneness

“Oneness” oil on canvas, 24″ x 24″

I also like to interview people and get their own sense of experience, and reading gives me a lot of material as well.

My Singing Heart

“My Singing Heart” oil on canvas, 20″ x 16″ oval

What inspires you?

Doubt and hope. The doubtfulness of the human condition and its reassurance in its own spirituality as a way of life or even as escapism to harsh realities. Where the birth of hope becomes. I like to know the various philosophical views of our psyche, from mythology, religion to folk tales all of which are the pillars of our society and beliefs.

Deafening Silence

“Deafening Silence” oil on canvas, 28″ x 22″

Part of my inspiration is also my emotional response to an emotional stimulus, so in a way I try to portray what is in me to a more universal understanding. The use of symbolism creates a big help for this translation, they are tools that at once put us in contact with emotions and experiences yet at the same time provide a sort of distancing or protection by giving us an alternative language.

Healing Wound

“Healing Wound” oil on canvas, 48″ x 36″

Lately I have been fascinated by stained glass and what symbolism they carry in various cathedrals around the world. Starting from the way they are constructed using sacred geometry to what they are adorned with.

The Oracle

“The Oracle” oil on canvas, 20″ x 30″

I am also very interested in any kind of meticulous decorations as a divine way of worshiping. As of today I am very drawn to depict how much of a necessity it is to us to believe in something greater than ourselves.
