Trained in the fine arts with a masters degree in painting, all my works focus on complex and innovative expressions of color.

After graduating from the masters program at the Art Institute of Chicago, I was encouraged by world-renowned visiting artists from New York City to go directly to the city and begin my career continuing to paint the large scale abstract color field paintings they critiqued as “masterful in my use of color and technique.”

Shortly after moving to a loft in New York City’s Soho artists district, I was featured in the show “New York Eleven” with two 10’ x 15’ paintings. Today, I continue to paint abstract works and also work with collage and digital imagery.

My inspiration for abstract work comes from the use of color in Renaissance art, Asian art and nature. In my series “The New Botanicals” my goal was to focus on pure, literal imagery of my lifelong inspiration, the flower.

The flowers I have depicted in archival digital prints present themselves boldly and perfectly just as they are. These exquisite images practically create themselves along with my help in selecting and posing them.

The series was created to be a contemporary treatment of the age-old art of botanical drawing, which for centuries was the only way of recording floral images. Many of my “flower portraits” were created at the request of Harvard University’s Arnold Arboretum. They recognize my works as the most accurate botanical images of various flowers from their collection to date.

“The New Botanicals” are not photographs. Actual live specimens are composed after many tries and scanned. They are then imported to Photoshop where I work on them for hours, perfecting color and composition, yet never straying from their accurate depiction.

My fine art digital prints are heirloom quality and colorfast for 125 yrs. They bring the elegant and graceful vibrancy of the flower to flourish indoors year round.

  3. The images are gorgeous, Vinette. They have a dramatic serenity to them. I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but you’ve achieved that lovely balance.

Your work is exquisite ! As a published maker, seller and exhibitor of digital “Floral Portraits” …… your work shows great vision and execution. Your “Fuschia Peony” is extraordinary!

  7. I share your love of nature and the exquisite life of flowers! Love the bold modern style that exemplifies their beauty! Long live flower portraiture!

  8. Nice to see that this scanning of live flower specimens is still going on since I began doing this in 2005 once I bought my Epson 10000X. You might also look at the collection of books of scanned flowers by the late Harold Feinstein, “One Hundred Flowers”, “Foliage”, “One Hundred Seashells”, and “Orchidelerium” which he produced about a decade ago. Enjoy!
