I grew up in Michigan and spent my childhood summers living in a cottage on a lake. I had a lot of freedom to roam, play and explore my surroundings in nature.

My life now as a full-time artist is all about that same freedom to create and play while exploring and expressing myself.

My inspiration comes from what I see and how it makes me feel. I’ll photograph something of interest or beauty—animals, insects and pleasant intricate shapes grab my attention. I’ll frequently stop to jot a note in my phone about color combinations or fun ideas.

When in the studio I’ll consult my photo references, notes and art journal. All this information, taken from my daily life experiences, find their way into my paintings.

I pay attention to all the details in my life and I like this about myself. My paintings are detail oriented realism completed one shape at a time. I work on 300lb cold press paper preferring the 22” by 30” size, but also paint on smaller sized paper depending on my subject.

It is not uncommon for me to write about the process or significance of my paintings in my website blog or on Facebook. There is a beauty in simple stories, and I am told by my readers that those stories offer meaning to my visual creations.

The paintings and stories I want to relate emphasize calm in the natural world—a place to experience the re-balancing I often feel when there.

So here I present to you a sampling of where I have been and where I presently am. There is much more to explore as I challenge myself in areas outside of nature and realism.

But for now, there are birds, creatures and green living things that delight and inspire me to paint.
