I also received formal training with internationally recognized artists such as Cynthia Knox, David Jamieson and Gemma Seufferlein Gylling.

I do enjoy all types of art, and art that is rendered by beginners as well as by seasoned professionals. I primarily enjoy exploring subjects that have great contrast in light and dark tones and that are rich in color.

I enjoy doing still life pieces as well as some portraiture in human and animal life. I enjoy drawing furry subjects on suede and most everything else on smooth Bristol paper. The less porous the better, because it helps me produce a cleaner and more vivid pencil stroke. I like to burnish with a white oil-based Polychromos pencil or use stump and odorless thinner.

My ambitions include becoming a signature member in the CPSA and producing my work on a full-time and regular basis. I would like to continue to participate and excel in national and international exhibitions and become well known in those art venues. At the minimum, I would like to be a respected artist among my peers and master the mediums of colored pencil and watercolor.

I’m not so much interested in commission work because it detracts from my own artistic explorations in the subjects I’m interested in, although I will do some pieces a few times a year, mostly for charity.

My goal, when approaching any piece, is to take and obtain an interesting subject photo. I find this initial step quite challenging at times. I have found that a good artist usually has to become a proficient photographer no matter the medium he or she is skilled in. I’ll then take my time and concentrate in small areas and try and draw precisely what I see.

Applying these basic but important tenets has allowed me to render pieces that are thought-provoking and interesting as well as technically accurate and realistic. My current project is to prepare a piece for the International Guild of Realism’s exhibition in California this autumn.
