As a youngster I watched in awe as an older sibling used her private lessons and limited supplies to turn paint and canvas into what seemed like miraculous works of art. I knew then that creating art must become a part of my world. In my late teens, with no guidance and used supplies, I put paint to canvas and discovered the sheer joy and fulfillment of painting.

Since that tender age, art has always occupied the special crevices of my brain and my soul. In college I was able to start the lifelong learning process that is still a daily passion. For the last twenty years I have achieved my goal of full time artist, devoting my energy to creating art that fills my heart and touches my soul.

I am a storyteller, and nature is my subject! I most often start with my own photography and the stories emerge though the magnificence of form, color, light, beauty and relationships in the world around us.

My figurative work also includes animals and wildlife of all kinds. I seek to portray their spirit and uniqueness in the same way I do humans.

I see beauty in all things and therefore do not restrict myself to any particular subject matter. My goal is to capture the moment, tell that unique story and bring intimate understanding and connection.

I paint primarily in acrylics, and consider my art to be Contemporary Realism. While I often include elements of representational, or impressionism, my paintings reflect my respect and reverence for the beauty of nature which I strive to portray authentically.

In the last two years, a new challenge to my creative process has emerged and I have begun to incorporate dream elements into my artwork. I call this series “Mystical Encounters.”

By utilizing some of the basic principles of Magical Realism, as the compositional foundation, and incorporating the subject matter from my dreams, I strive to create paintings that present familiar subjects in unexpected ways, stretching ones understanding of reality and possibility.

These paintings are uniquely different from traditional Magical Realism in their simplicity, and frequently, their connection to the Southwest culture and traditions.
