I remember being involved in art projects here and there when I was young, mainly because of school. My mom has amazing drawing skills and I loved to color her drawings. Later on I started to make my own drawings, and they were pretty good!

However, I eventually became an engineer. Art was always secondary in my life, until 2011.

I began studying, and I still do, with the best artists and mentors. I have worked countless hours on my art, even though I still work full-time as an engineer. I truly believe that finding the discipline to constantly improve my skills with pastel and digging deep to find self-motivation are what keeps me moving forward.

Whether working in my studio or en plein air, I like to use watercolor or pastel mixed with rubbing alcohol to create an underpainting, usually with complimentary colors. I have to plan ahead and decide what tones will be in the painting when I create the layer underneath.

My work is definitely colorful and bold. I enjoy making square marks and loose marks with the pastel sticks. Using this medium is an advantage when you love color and contrast as much as I do.

I am obsessed with capturing sunlight and shadow in my paintings. Big fields with trees and reflections in the water in marshes are my favorite subjects.

My goal is to keep getting better and be able to sell more of my work. For me, nothing beats knowing someone chose one of my pieces to hang in their home. It is a very gratifying feeling.

Eventually I would like to work as a full-time artist.

I have reached some milestones in my art career, such as getting an Honorable Mention in the Pastel Journal’s “Pastel 100” competition and becoming a signature member at the Pastel Society of America.
