“Spiral Speak” symbolic spiral painting by artist Sam Brown.

“Spiral Speak” Acrylic, 30” x 24”

My Spiral Series seems, at times, a chronology of symbols, subjects and information I’ve come across in my own journey of being human.

“Abiquiu Spiral” painting of heaven and earth by artist Sam Brown.

“Abiquiu Spiral” Acrylic, 24” x 24”

The notion that the world is much more than it seems is a sensibility which, since childhood, has been at the core of my personal interest and my fervor for making art. Many of my early themes were explorations into science fiction and fantasy worlds.

“Taos Spiral” Acrylic painting southwest inspired by artist Sam Brown.

“Taos Spiral” Acrylic, 24” x 18”

When I was in my twenties, I first came to New Mexico and was overwhelmed by the beautiful terrain and the native cultures. I have always admired primitive art—especially petroglyphs and tribal, mythic forms.

“Owl Prayer” painting by artist Sam Brown with native american motifs

“Owl Prayer” Acrylic and Sand, 36” x 48”

My early journeys into New Mexico stayed with me, and I felt a strong connection to my discoveries there in some way, although I couldn’t explain just how. Those road trips of my youth were really inspiring and I’ve never forgotten them.
