I am a representational oil painter living in Southern California. Like many artists, I have loved art since I was a child.

 

 

In my pursuit to live my dream I have explored many different art forms. I fell in love with oil paints about fifteen years ago. The buttery texture and blending ability made me give up other mediums.

 

 

I started fine art painting at the same time. I received some great advice from my mentor and teacher, when he told me to “paint what you love and paint it a thousand times.” I have followed his advice and I think I have painted pretty close to that number of paintings.

 

 

I love to paint food, especially sweet foods like cakes, cookies and most of all donuts.

 

 

It is nostalgic, and takes people back to happy and joyous moments, whether celebrating a special occasion or simply having a treat after a meal. It never fails to bring a smile to someone’s face when I tell him or her that the subject matter for my work is mostly desserts.

 

 

I like to handle my dessert paintings like portraits. Not unlike people, my subjects have layers and personalities. I have recently moved from just painting portraits of donuts to painting donuts in surreal environments.

 

 

This adds interesting and unusual levels to my sweet treats.

 

 

In my most current work, my paintings are a mix of fact and fantasy. It is the irrational juxtaposition of images that intrigues me. My imagination is not limited to my reality.

 

 

It also lets me blend my different genres of landscapes and big skies with my donuts. I hope the viewer is intrigued, too.

 

 

I find this quote from Vincent Van Gogh, “The only time I feel alive is when I’m painting,” sums up my passion for my craft.
