“Spark” Botanical Mixed Media with Frame, 12″ x 12″ x 2″
My artwork is one of my greatest passions. It is pure joy knowing I can create art almost every day and I never take that for granted. Each step, or even a glance into nature, is a jump-start of ideas for my botanical mixed media compositions. It is also where I seek and find the most profound aspects of my 2D and 3D art creations.

“Elevate” Botanical Mixed Media, 40″ x 19″ x 2″
I find various botanical elements in a myriad of places. It doesn’t matter if the botanicals are perfect or weathered, tattered or aged. I randomly collect and take these elements into my studio where they are pressed and dried. Later, they become integrated into the acrylics and various paint mediums that bring my compositions to fruition.

“Silver Linings” Botanical Mixed Media, 27″ x 27″ x 2″
The processes of painting and layering, creating textures and mixing colors and being patient have helped me in my studio and in my life as well.

“Totems” Botanical Mixed Media, Each 54″ Tall with 12″ x 12″ x 2″ Base
It is my belief that the gifts of nature have an energy—each element can share a metaphoric lesson and/or some inspiration. They can also offer healing and refreshment for even our greatest life challenges.

“Open Minded II” Botanical Mixed Media with Frame, 17″ x 17″ x 2″
In addition to all that, the profound beauty of nature is evident in the subtlety of a tiny flower petal or leaf—extending all the way into a view of the outreaches of the heavens.

“The Power of Passion V” Botanical Mixed Media with Frame, 36″ x 48″ x 2″
These gifts are everywhere and for everyone. The understanding that we all share this planet and the things of nature that make life even possible is very connecting and positive. These are just some of the reasons I have chosen to include actual elements from nature in my art.

“Joyful” Botanical Mixed Media, 27″ x 27″ x 2″
This journey began for me in 1999, even before I finished my Bachelor of Fine Art in painting degree program at Arizona State University. My art education was incredible. However, the processes I use in my art I developed on my own in response to my personal experiences and through much trial and error. From the very first time I utilized natural elements in my art I have been very grateful that each day offers new possibilities, discoveries, challenges (occasionally a painting ends up in time-out) and adventures in my studio.

“Find a Way” (Quadriptych) Botanical Mixed Media with Frames, Each Panel 8″ x 38″ x 2″
I also write an original poem for each of my artworks. An example is the poem I wrote for the above mixed media painting:
FIND A WAY
What if we are
Unique and the same
Likely to share
Some kudos, some blame
What if we try
Harder each day
To come together,
To find a way.
My art can be found in galleries and in juried and invitational exhibitions. It is part of private, municipal and corporate collections in the United States and many other countries.

It is a dream come true to do something I love so much and have avenues to share it with others. I hope you will enjoy my art visuals and the poem I have chosen to share. It is my greatest intention for viewers of my art and poetry to feel the connections to nature, and to one another. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
