Pittsburgh artist Larry Klukaszewski takes sports seriously – and so do his many fans, who collect his work as memorabilia of their favorite sports teams and stars.
My name is Larry Klukaszewski and I am a self taught sports artist, specifically a sports memorabilia artist. I have been painting professionally since 2008. I make my home 20 miles north of Pittsburgh. Therefore, much of my sports art depicts heroes of our local black and gold teams here.
I work in acrylics and paint on items of memorabilia such as footballs, baseballs, hockey sticks, basketballs, pucks, jerseys, helmets and even our beloved “Terrible Towel.”
My work is truly unique and I not only do projects for professional athletes, but also collectors. Even though I prefer to paint unique objects, I still accept commissions to paint on traditional media as well.
Just this past summer, I was one of only 25 sports artists in the country to be invited to show in one of the largest sports art musuems in the country in Indianapolis, The National Art Museum of Sport. The show I am currently participating in is the “Football Invitational,” in honor of this year’s Super Bowl being played in Indianapolis. I created a 16 x 20 acrylic painting on masonite of Terry Bradshaw.
However, my greatest honor was presenting Steeler owner and US Ambassador to Ireland, Mr. Dan Rooney, with a hand painted football depicting himself and Hines Ward. That very ball sits on permanent display at Heinz Field, home of the Steelers.
I seek to become one of the best memorabilia artists in the field and will soon begin airbrushing. This, I believe, will make my work even more intriguing. I have been featured in several local newspapers and on many local TV shows in Pittsburgh.
Outstanding concept, and interesting to read of your work and goals…….Judy
I appreciate the kind words, Judy. I have lofty goals for sure, but they keep me motivated on a daily basis! Take care now.
