Kristjana’s designs are graphic & bold, layering and interweaving fragments of Victorian engravings and natural history prints with her own contemporary photography and illustration. Growing up in Iceland has been the most important inspiration for her work.

Inspired by childhood memories of the starkness of Icelandic nature and stories told to her by family. Seeing through the eyes of a child everything about the landscape looked grey- now seeing more clearly, “the colours and landscape are like nowhere else in the world.”

Nature on nature “the symmetry that lies in all things living” is apparent in all of her work along with her trademark referencing of flora and fauna. Sources of inspiration include: The Natural History Museum, The Tapestry Room at the V&A and Victorian engravings.

A new technique of gold & silver leafing has been applied to limited edition prints creating depth and drama to her colourful and graphic prints. A new series of maps including ‘Modern London’ and ‘Great Britain’ layer exotic creatures and dream like illustrations over historical hand drawn maps.
