It is difficult to put into words how I make my art. I can’t speak to specific technical details or lighting requirements. I never studied photography or fine art in school; I just “see” a photograph.

I don’t know if it’s the colors, the light, the patterns in nature, or a combination of all three. But there are moments where it all comes together in my eyes and those become the pictures I need to capture.

I dabbled in photography in my 20’s and 30’s, but the timing in my life never felt right. Finally in my 50’s as I neared the end of my education career, my husband gifted me with a camera. His gift brought out my love for photography again and I have never looked back. It is the perfect compliment to our mutual love of birding.

I love being outside, whether it is walking or simply sitting on my porch. Nature soothes me, makes me calm, relaxes me and brings me true joy. Being out in the places I love with my camera is magical. Whether it is photographing flowers or searching for that difficult to see bird, I get completely lost in the moment.

I try to capture the often unseen details in flowers. So often we walk through life too quickly and miss so much. When I am lucky enough to capture those special bird photos, my hope is that their personalities shine through.

My husband and I love to travel and explore new cities and countries. We often make time for birding and my camera is never far from reach. He is my spotter, often better and catching a glimpse of quick moving birds than I am.

Recently, I’ve been experimenting with black and white, architectural and landscape photography and am having so much fun. I don’t know if I will ultimately settle on one style of photography or continue to explore many. But all of my photography brings me immense joy.

I’m an introvert by nature and don’t often do art shows. I prefer to share my art through photography competitions, online galleries and through my website. I enjoy sharing what I love with others and hope that I am bringing just a little beauty into this world.
