For me, it’s all about the hike and being outdoors. I love to spend time in the wilds, where I enjoy seeing birds and other animals in their natural settings.

 

 

My photography aims to capture these moments I spend outdoors, and preserve them to share with others. As an avid birdwatcher, many of my photos have avian subjects, but I also point my lens at insects, other animals, flowers and more.

 

 

Vivid colors, actions, unusual behaviors often catch my eye. Birds in flight, feeding or hunting, or perched in a picturesque setting are favorite subjects in my photos.

 

 

I learned to love identifying birds and bird songs at a young age from my father and grandmother. I returned to birdwatching with vigor during the pandemic, when social distancing and work-from-home gave me ample opportunity to take more regular hikes in Great Falls National Park, Maryland, and along the C&O Canal.

 

 

Interestingly, I re-connected with two friends who had been in the same college dorm freshman year, and who have been birdwatching together for years. One of them lent me his camera one day and I quickly fell in love with photography.

 

 

I have pursued wildlife photography full time since retiring in March 2022 after a 35 year career as an economist with the Federal Reserve Board, JPMorganChase, the International Monetary Fund, Freddie Mac and Nareit.

 

 

I have traveled extensively for wildlife photography, with trips in just the past four years to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, San Juan Islands, Algarve Coast of Portugal, Morocco, including the High Atlas Mountains and Sahara Desert, Costa Rica, Sri Lanka, the Ecuadorian Amazon and Andean Highlands, and the Galápagos Islands.

 

 

My photos have been featured in a solo show in an art gallery, and in a local magazine. I teach a course on birds and bird behavior that is based on my photography, and regularly give photo lectures at retirement communities and nature centers.
