Based in Greenville, South Carolina, I develop art with a creative philosophy centered on “Capturing Carolina Country.”

 

 

I studied advertising design and graphic art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. After graduating, my career was launched as a graphic designer, illustrator, art director and creative director. My entrepreneurial spirit later led me to Miami, where Pat Konicki Advertising & Design was founded. I served clients in the retail, fashion, manufacturing, and healthcare industries. Eventually relocating to the Carolinas, I spent years as an educator, instructor and design consultant ultimately focusing on fine art.

 

 

I am an active member of leading industry organizations, including the American Watercolor Society and the South Carolina Watermedia Society. My work has been featured in numerous competitive solo and group exhibitions across regional creative hubs. In addition, my art has been exhibited in galleries throughout North and South Carolina and Texas.

 

 

Securing global distribution and licensing contracts with leading publisher McGaw Graphics, Inc. has validated my artistic vision and commercial viability. It provides a tremendous platform to reach international collectors, interior designers, and fine art enthusiasts.

 

 

My particular interest is the conjunction of beauty and antiquity of rural life in the Carolinas. The use of watercolor offers a unique detailed study of often forgotten treasures and seeks to explore the way an alternate perception of an otherwise overlooked subject can provoke an emotional or imaginative response.

 

 

The art uses themes of decomposition and deterioration to evoke feelings like loss, urgency, and beauty, which prompts viewers to connect with the images on a personal level. Various watercolor methods are used, including the enhancement of light and color. These depict ecological changes to convey both the beauty of nature and encourage reflection on consumption and neglect. They can also ignite a rationale for the protection and restoration of the local environment.

 

 

Looking past the obvious, close observation and engagement of the image is my process. The challenge is to see beyond the distraction of the decay, abandoned or dismissed and capture its allure.

 

 

Some subjects are quite ordinary, others less so. Ultimately, my paintings serve as a visual bridge connecting the past to the present day. My series “Rural Carolina Revisited” captures the quiet splendor and history of Carolina country by transforming forgotten, decaying rural sights into meaningful visual narratives.

 

 

My goal is to inspire the viewers to look more carefully at the world around them and discover beauty in unusual places.
