“Follow Your Arrow” clay monoprint, 14″ x 14″

One of my earliest memories is my first day of art school at age three. I was so excited in my new red smock with big white buttons.

Creating art was a constant in my life through my teen years. Not having the confidence to pursue art in college, I chose a different path.

“Today, Tomorrow and Always” clay monoprint with collage, 13″ x 13″

Dabbling here and there in various creative outlets, my focus as an adult has been on raising two amazing children and my career as a psychologist and couple’s therapist.

“Promise of a New Dawn” clay monoprint, 22″ x 22″

About 10 years ago, I found my artistic home in clay monoprinting. Clay monoprinting is a unique process of creating a piece of art on a clay slab using colored wet clay as my paint.

Once I have a design that speaks to me, I place a non-woven substrate on top of the clay slab. I roll it with a pastry roller and what is on my slab transfers to the substrate, creating a one-of-a-kind print.

Example of 3 images pulled from the same clay slab – Left: “The Birds 1″ (1st pull) clay monoprint, 4″ x 4” Center: “The Birds 2″ (2nd pull) clay monoprint, 4″ x 4” Right: “The Birds 3″ (3rd pull) clay monoprint, 4″ x 4”

Because each print pulls some clay and pigment, what is left on the slab reveals hidden layers, and the possibility of a second print that is similar but different. I am grateful to my mentor, the late Mitch Lyons, who created and taught me this process.

Now, in the second half of my life’s journey, I am pursuing my other calling of creating and sharing my art.

“My Spiritual Passport” clay monoprint, 8″ x 8″

I feel I have come full circle and recaptured a part of myself that has been dormant. My art is full of color, texture, depth and many layers.

“Further to Fly” clay monoprint, 14″ x 14″

It is in the layers that the surprises emerge. My work as a therapist parallels my work as an artist. I am always interested in what is just beneath the surface as we discover something new and different about ourselves.

You may be drawn in by the colors or design, but the more you look at my art, the more layers and hidden gems you discover.  My art hints at searching, finding your voice and trusting your inner strength.
