dreamlike semi-abstract oil painting of a shoreline

“Shoreline 56” oil, 4′ x 4′

The peaceful flow of wildflowers across an open field, the calming mystique of a southwestern landscape, the inviting sound of gentle waves coming to shore along the beaches of Lake Michigan, the happy sound of songbirds, or the love I have for God’s horses. I interpret them on canvas or paper with smooth strokes of oil paint with my palette knives, or the soft brushwork of painting with watercolors. These are the natural things that are very inspirational to me as an artist.

landscape painting of a path in the sand to a sunset

“Path in the Sand” oil and cold wax, 28″ x 22″

My studio is on my home property in a wonderful space in a detached garage. It gives me a private and peaceful setting for my art. I love painting there. It is also where I teach individual students who come to me for help in developing their style and learning good composition. I coach them as they find their own voice in painting.

dreamlike semi-abstract landscape with road

“Ascent” oil, 36″ x 36″

Throughout my life as a painter, I have most enjoyed handling and applying paint in a way that gives beauty to the paint. Excellent composition, creating pleasing color harmony using a limited palette, and capturing what is for me the sense of place I experience in a particular landscape are all very important.

semi-abtsract oil painting of a wildflower meadow

“Beautifully Wild III” oil, 24″ x 24″

I paint with oil using palette knives to develop interesting surface textures in each painting as well as a pleasing scene. Like all artists, I am challenged to create my best work. It’s a natural response to the ongoing artistic process and the rhythm of life itself.

“Flowering Far Afield” oil, 36″ x 30″

My paintings have been juried into more than 85 national, regional and local exhibitions. I have received wonderful awards, been offered through galleries, and published in art books and magazines. The information for these is on my website. Gallery inquiries are always welcome.

colorful dreamlike landscape painting

“Landscape 149″ oil, 4′ x 4”

My faith in Jesus Christ as my Savior is at the core of who I am, both as a person and an artist. Honoring my Creator through my work is at the heart of what inspires me. I marvel in awe at the beautiful designs, patterns and sense of movement and rhythm and delightful colors of the peaceful places of the natural world. Where no man has yet put his mark.

“Silence in Motion” oil, 11″ x 14″

As a worship song begins, “You are beautiful beyond description, too marvelous for words, too wonderful for comprehension like nothing ever seen or heard.” (writer Mark Altrogge)

“Beautifully Wild and Free” oil, 24″ x 48″

I hope my paintings resonate with that inspiration in an honoring way.
