“Amber and Ivory” oil, 15″ x 10″
I’ve been drawn to art for as long as I can remember and painting most of my life. As a young girl my family moved a lot. Tennessee, Texas, and North Carolina were all home.

“Bittersweet” oil, 17″x 18″
Luckily, I had drawing and painting as constants throughout the many places I found myself living. I took art classes at The University of North Carolina. After graduation, I took a sharp detour into the corporate world. I went to work for a Fortune 500 company and was transferred to New York.

“Snowballs in Spring” oil, 20″ x 16″
Once in New York, the art world opened up for me. Classes available through the Art Students League, Grand Central Academy and many other drop-in clinics. After years of living, working and studying in New York City, I married, had two kids and moved to Westchester County.

“Artist’s Array” oil, 21″ x 16″
Once there I started evening classes at The Rye Arts Center. I lucked into a class taught by Jon DeMartin. I soon started lessons in small, day long classes at his studio. There he gave me the tools and the method to paint in the classical tradition of the Dutch and French still life masters Chardin and Vermeer.

“Through the Green Glass” oil, 16″ x 20″
I paint almost exclusively in oils, finding the colors vibrant, the medium rich and forgiving. I paint still life, florals and an occasional landscape. My approach to a still life composition is propelled by the relationship of the color, light and beauty of the objects I’ve set up to paint, but my favorites are the ones that tell a story.

“Childhood’s End” oil, 15″ x 17″
Take for example, Childhood’s End. As my children got old enough to leave home for college, I gathered up some of the toys and playthings of their youth. A Pinewood Derby car, baseball and glove, blocks, marbles, jacks, Robin (of Batman fame) and a bottle of 7UP. The story of their youth on canvas.

“The Letter” oil, 20″ x 13″
Thank you for sharing my artistic journey. I hope my paintings bring you as much joy as I find in creating them.
