My paintings begin in chaos.

 

 

Each canvas starts with an intuitive release of paint, marks, layers, and movement. What initially feels unresolved gradually transforms into something quieter and more intentional. Through this process, I explore a question that has long fascinated me: how can strength exist alongside gentleness?

 

 

Living in the Appalachian Mountains of Western North Carolina, I draw constant inspiration from nature. Trees, wildflowers, birds, shifting light, and the changing landscape find their way into my work, not as literal representations, but as metaphors for the human experience.

 

 

I am particularly interested in the hidden power that surrounds us—the resilience of a hummingbird, the wisdom of an ancient tree, the quiet strength carried by women, and the transformative force of our thoughts.

 

 

My work often moves between abstraction and representation. Layered surfaces, subtle textures, repeated marks, and passages of text create a visual history within each painting. In my Mantra Series, phrases are written repeatedly until they nearly disappear, becoming part of the painting itself.

 

 

These words serve as reminders of hope, courage, and perseverance. My Powerful Women Series uses delicate dress forms to honor the strength and influence of women whose contributions are often understated. Trees, wildflowers, and birds appear throughout my work as symbols of endurance, growth, and connection.

 

 

I am drawn to a restrained palette anchored by raw umber, Payne’s gray, and soft neutrals, often interrupted by moments of unexpected color and light. This balance reflects the tension I seek in every painting—between calm and energy, fragility and power, order and disorder.

 

 

Ultimately, my work is an invitation to pause, reflect, and find beauty within complexity. Beneath the layers, I hope viewers discover what I continually seek myself: reassurance that even in uncertain times, there is resilience, meaning, and hope.
