My name is Gill Bustamante. I am a UK-based artist who paints large magical realist/semi-abstract/art-nouveau style landscape paintings. They are inspired by the nature, landscapes and wildlife I encounter on my rural walks in both England and beyond.

I have sold over 1300 paintings in the course of my career. I’ve put in many hours of valuable experience developing my artistic skills including mural painting, hand-painted furniture, portrait painting and more.

I often work from memory. It tends to “distil” what I have seen so that what emerges onto a canvas is as much a feeling about a place as it is an accurate depiction of it.

Consequently, I have developed a totally unique language which not only highlights some of the visual details and accuracies of a landscape, its birds, flora and fauna and wildlife, but also shows some of the spirit of it all.

My paintings usually tell a story but I prefer to hint at them rather than make it too obvious what the story is. This is because I want to invite people into the universes I create and follow their own ideas. This has always been one of the highest purposes of art.

My paintings often feature paths, views though things, liminal spaces, thin places and otherworldliness. I utilise semi-abstract techniques, free and intuitive brush strokes and slightly art nouveau flourishes to portray my ideas.

My goal as an artist is to help instil and nurture a deeper appreciation for nature in others and to encourage the protection of landscapes and wildlife as well as provide a place for viewers to escape beyond the mundane and be more curious about the spiritual.
