Shooters

“Shooters” Colored pencil, 18″ x 7″

My passion for art has spanned over a 30-year award-winning career as a commercial artist, graphic designer, and illustrator to recently becoming a full time painter and gallery owner in Eastern North Carolina.

In My Eyes

“In My Eyes” Colored Pencil, 11″ x 14″

I have been creating colored pencil paintings close to twenty years. My studio work includes pastels and acrylics but my chosen medium is colored pencil.

Chucks Canvas

“Chucks Canvas” Colored Pencil, 12″ x 12″

My paintings are imagined, planned and executed in a realistic style. My goal is not to duplicate a photographic moment in time, but to represent my unique artistic interpretation through observation.

Crayola Blue

“Crayola Blue” Colored Pencil, 11″ x 14″

I am inspired by unassuming places and things waiting to be noticed. I seek to provide a place for the viewer to find curiosity and appreciation for the process of creation.

Maine Stream

“Maine Stream” Colored Pencil, 18″ x 6″

My work is diverse in subject matter, ranging from still life’s that take a close-up look at the beauty of ordinary objects, to landscapes that capture the grace and rhythms of nature. I love being involved in the creation of a variety of concepts.

Closed Doors

“Closed Doors” Colored Pencil, 19″ x 15″

I use a blending process of layering colored pencils and merging the layers of color together. The colors are transparent; building the layers of color using light to medium pressure gives me the rich, illusion of depth in my paintings.

Bottle Appetizer

“Bottle Appetizer” Colored pencil, 20″ x 16″

I keep my pencil extremely sharp at all times and use a mixture of crosshatching, horizontal, diagonal, vertical, or circular strokes. I add color gradually working from dark to light. Layering allows me to build increasingly complex values, hues and textures. I hope to enunciate the value of my subject.

Winter Red

“Winter Red” Colored pencil, 16″ x 12″

My chosen surface, of late, is pastel board. It has just the right amount of tooth to hold the many layers applied. It also allows me to spray varnish the surface so that the paintings can be framed without glass as you would an oil painting.

My Kiss

“My Kiss” Colored pencil, 11″ x 14″

I continue to explore new ways and techniques of developing my style, defining the detail, reflections and realism on different surfaces.

Vitula

“Vitula” Colored pencil, 10″ x 15″

I am a charter, signature member and 5-Year Merit Award Recipient of the Colored Pencil Society of America, (CPSA). My paintings have been published in Best of Colored Pencil, CP Treasures Colored Pencil Masterworks, and The Colored Pencil Signature Showcase.

  1. Love color pencils. Happy to see your work. The pencils are definately a strong suit for you! I use polychromos, for the lightfastness. I have a hard time finding them as individual colors out in the hinterlands of Virginia.

  2. I am just learning colored pencil, so your work is very inspiring!! Beautiful work, my favorite is Closed Doors!
