I never paint for a particular audience. I often create paintings that seem to defy any established category.

Many people comment on the variety of styles and subject matter that comprises my work, but I can’t imagine painting any other way. Painting flowers, landscapes or animals for the rest of my life would be like death to me.

I almost never paint small, and most of my paintings are 3′ x 3′ or larger. When I am asked why I paint, I don’t have a complex answer. I simply tell them that I feel I have something to say, and hope others see the value of my work.

I was very fortunate to grow up in an area where some of the most famous artists of the century had their studios. As a result, I had the unique opportunity to study with de Kooning, Larry Rivers and Andy Warhol.

After attending Pratt Institute in New York City, I went on to work as a designer for many years and was later a writer and producer in Los Angeles.

I am often asked what my artistic motivations are, and I have to say that I am blessed in two respects. First, I never suffer from “painter’s block.”

I can honestly say that at age seventy, after having painting literally since I was eight, I have never once run out of ideas that excite me. In fact, my only frustration is that there is so much I still want to do.

I have also been fortunate that buyers generally find me and among those who own my work are two American presidents and many famous actors and athletes—most recently Daniel Day Lewis and Steve Buscemi.
