As long as I can remember, my parents’ love of travel took them, and many times my whole family, to culturally rich and artistically beautiful places.

Seeing castles and cathedrals, markets and museums, vineyards and villages were magical experiences. The imagery has informed, inspired and challenged the way I have worked throughout my career.

Art and design have always played a significant role in my life. My grandfather was an architect and painted. My father nurtured roses and dabbled in watercolor and pencil, and my mother’s flair for design has always been evident in her fashion, interior design and gardens.

Through my own experience, I learned to translate the landscape with paint after many years of doing abstract collage.

The underpinnings of architectural lines are frequently a guiding force for my landscapes. It is with that mark making that I’m able to express a “sense of place.”

Be it mountainous, oceanic or atmospheric, I don’t try to convey a specific place, and oftentimes don’t title my work for that reason. Instead, I find it more enriching as an artist to connect with my viewer by triggering an emotion, a memory or even a sense of déjà vu.

It is precisely that kind of experience I hope to be able to offer the viewer of my paintings. Upon seeing an architectural landscape of mine, a studio visitor remarked it was exactly how she remembered the cathedral in Budapest.

Having never been there myself, it gave me a deep satisfaction to know my art can physically, as well as metaphorically, transport someone somewhere with their own “sense of place.”
