“So You Never Forget” earthenware, glazes, approx. 7.5″ x 4.5″
I am a mixed media artist inspired by the beauty and complexity of humans, especially our fragility and imperfection. My art has taken many forms over the years, but clay has been foremost for the past twenty-two years.

“Three White Heads” earthenware, glazes approx. 16″ x 8.5″ each piece
Clay is particularly well-suited for exploring these themes because it is both malleable and durable. This duality reflects the way humans are constantly changing, yet we remain fundamentally the same.

“Frederik” earthenware, glazes, approx. 8″ x 4.5″
I like to incorporate mixed media when it suits the piece. Before finding clay, I was a metalsmith. I still have big love for metal, but clay is where I can lose myself and let the work lead me. Hand-building allows me to be most expressive, and the therapeutic aspect of having one’s hands in clay is incredible.

“Pearl Table” earthenware, wood, paint and glazes approx 26″ x 16″
I believe art has the power to connect people and promote tolerance and compassion. I grew up with a severely handicapped older brother. He is beautiful and perfect in every way, as he is exactly who he was born to be. The gifts he bestows on those who have loved him are innumerable. I draw my inspiration from this place of love.

“Take” earthenware, glazes approx 7″ x 4″
I have volunteered in schools to talk to teens about the themes in my pieces. My art gets their attention. From there, it’s an easy segue into the message behind the work.

“Pugilist” in kiln (ready to bisque fire) earthenware, glazes, approx. 42″ x 18″
If I believe I have reached one child who feels less than through my concept of loving and accepting ourselves exactly as we are, this is a huge win.

“The Journey” (detail), earthenware, glazes, approx 21″ x 12″
My work has been exhibited in galleries across the United States. I have also been commissioned to create work for private collections around the world. I never take it for granted that I can do what I love and touch so many people!
