“Buster Dog Portrait” oil, 23” x 20”
I’ve always been a creative person, but my journey with oil painting truly began after I moved to Australia and had my children. I had always been mesmerized by oil painting—something about it felt so special and complex. When I finally took my first class, I fell in love instantly.

“Monty the French Bulldog” oil, 12” x 16”
At first, I focused on floral paintings, inspired by the beauty of Australian flora. I created an entire series, exploring colors, textures, and light. Then, one day, a friend asked if I painted pet portraits—his beloved dog had passed away, and he wanted a way to remember him. That question planted a seed in my mind.

“Marcy” oil, 12” x 16”
When the world paused during Covid, I took the opportunity to study online with incredible artists from around the world, exploring new techniques and subjects. Among them was animal portraiture, and that’s when everything clicked. I realized how much I loved capturing the spirit of animals on canvas.

“Up in the Trees” oil, 9” x 5”
My creative process always begins with choosing the right reference photos—ones that tell a story and reveal something special about the pet. I spend time selecting the perfect color combination, playing with background tones, and often doing small color studies before I begin.

“Saluki portrait” oil, 9” x 12”
The most magical moment happens when I paint the eyes. That’s when the portrait truly comes to life—it’s as if the animal is looking right at me from the canvas. It’s an incredible feeling, and I strive to capture that deep connection in every piece.

“A Heartfelt Christmas Gift” oil, 12” x 16”
Many of my clients have been moved to tears when they receive their portraits, especially when their pets have passed away. One particularly emotional commission was a double portrait of two dogs. I worked from separate photo references, but while I was painting, one of the dogs sadly passed away. The finished piece became a deeply meaningful Christmas gift for the owner’s mother. Moments like these remind me why I do what I do.

“Gypsy by the Water” oil, 12”x16”
I now have a home studio on the Gold Coast where I create my oil paintings, but I also teach art classes for adults. Animal portraits have become one of my favorite subjects to teach because I love helping others discover the joy of bringing animals to life on canvas.

“In Loving Memory of Louise” oil, 23” x 20”
I was honored to be featured on Artsy Shark in 2018 as a floral painting artist. Since then, my work has expanded, this time for my pet and animal portraits.

“Snow Hare” oil, 9” x 12”
These paintings are more than just artwork; they are treasured memories, a way to honor and celebrate the animals we love.
