Colour and oil painting has been my profession and passion for over twenty-five years. There is no end to the absolute inspiration I find in colours everywhere, every day.
The infinite brilliance of colour in the natural world is breathtaking. It is here that I see how geometry and pattern form the very basis of life and connects us all.
Colour is a universal language. I am fascinated by the endless revolving rhythms, patterns and notes found in nature and technology.
My painting career has been intensely focused. I am dedicated to the evolving relationship I have with my work. The blessings it has brought me have been so deeply rewarding.
Painting has allowed me to exhibit nationally and internationally for many years and brought me to the most exotic painting locations around the world. I have won numerous awards and have paintings in private and public collections around the world including Artbank and Macquarie University. When I was twenty I remember thinking this is what I want to do. Yes—by the time I am ninety, what could be more fulfilling that having a lifetime of pictures, a lifetime of creativity!
Using complex mixtures of well over twenty oil paints, I produce unique colours that form a kind of visual language symbiotic with geometry and shape.
My practice is slow and meditative. I spend hours mixing colour, then intuitively place it on the canvas or linen using brushes.
I see images in dreams and daydreams and work in close connection to unconscious worlds. It is here, in this deep painting space immersed in music, that all my questions are answered, and the world opens up into a never-ending kaleidoscope.
It is also here, like in any relationship, that I experience the ups and downs of life—the sadness, frustration, anger and lack of meaning. Painting carries me on, down the river, flowing, floating, swimming into the new.
This year I had my solo show at BMGART in South Australia. It was a year of active focus. I am currently painting for the Loreto Spring Art show in Adelaide in September. Last week I found out I was a finalist in the Spectrum Miami Art Fair Competition and here I am on Artsy Shark!
I am currently based in the Adelaide hills, and am in love with my partner and two daughters. My favorite artist is the incredible Gillian Ayers, who died this year. Her deep love of colour and painting will always touch my soul.
