Online Imaging Tools for Artists

by Carolyn Edlund

These image manipulation tools are perfect for artists who want to present and market their work effectively. Most of them start at a free level.

Image Tools for Artists

The following list of browser-based editing tools are useful for enhancing and managing all kinds of photographs that artists use in their small businesses: photos of artwork, work in progress, studio shots, and visuals for advertising. Use them for adding images and graphics to banners and headers, invitations and announcements, and for social media use, too.

Canva

This is a free graphic-design tool website that uses a drag-and-drop format. It provides access to over a million photographs, graphics, and fonts. It is used by non-designers as well as professionals. The tools can be used for both web and print media design and graphics. The photo editor also has an paid version you can upgrade to access more advanced features.

Cut My Pic

A fun, free, online web tool that quickly enables you to resize, edit, cut, crop, add rounded corners and a drop shadow to your image, picture or photo.

PIXLR

A free photo editing software that has both a mobile app and a web app. Features include a sponge tool, brush tool, red eye correction, gradient and more. You can pay for the Pro version for upgraded features.

Foto Jet

FotoJet is a powerful online app for graphic design, photo collage, and photo editing. No download or registration required. Free trial.

Photoshop Express

An app for your phone, you can use it to crop, fix red eye, share on social media and more. We’d pretty much recommend all of Adobe’s image editing products.

Fotor

Fotor is a free online picture editor and graphic designer, with added features such as filters, frames, text, stickers and effects. Use their design tools to make creative photo designs and graphics. Online Photoshop and graphic design software has never been so easy! You can also go pro for added features for a small monthly fee.

BeFunky

A browser-based free picture editing software, with an optional upgraded paid version. Crop, resize, rotate, and adjust exposure and lighting to your images.

Free Online Photo Editor

A very basic but easy-to-use free picture editing software. Crop, rotate, adjust colors, add borders and effects, and create text overlays for your pictures.

PicMonkey

This photo editor helps you design, edit, and create from the ground up for tons of uses, with a palette of layers for maximum impact. Create images for social sharing, use graphic overlays, and make ads quickly.

Snapspeed

Google’s own photo editor, Snapseed, is another best free photo editor. There’s a mobile app available for Android or iOS devices. The list of features is rather robust, from the standard crop and color correction to the more advanced selection tool where you can edit a specific area of the photo.

Snappa

With a drag-and-drop editor, this tool provides access to more than half a million free stock photos, 70,000+ vectors and shapes, and 200+ fonts. It’s free to download up to 5 files per month, or $10 a month for unlimited downloads.

Zamzar

This site is perfect for file conversion, and is useful not only for photos, but documents, audio and video, too. Very easy to use, and totally online, so you don’t have to download any software.
