I am an art supply addict. There, I said it. Aside from actually making art, nothing makes me happier than to discover new art supplies.

There is also the thrill of finding new ways to use old supplies or materials that aren’t traditionally used for art making such as Q-tips, bathroom cleaner and firepit glass. So much fun! For this reason, I call myself a mixed media artist.

Using materials in different ways on different surfaces is what makes my work uniquely mine. That and the collaboration between me and the spontaneous movement of paint or ink, which I like to call The Dance, allows me to respond to what is happening on the canvas rather than trying to control every aspect of it. The results are wildly unpredictable but visually more dynamic and exciting.

Often asked if it is hard to find inspiration, the answer is a resounding no. No matter where I am or what I’m doing, I find inspiration in the simplest of things.

From the shapes of leaves, the wrinkles on an elephant’s skin, the colorful wings of a butterfly, to the vibrant hues of a Hawaiian sunset—these natural wonders provide me with an endless source of creative inspiration.

My artwork always features bright colors, patterns, and textures because I want to convey a joyful interpretation of God’s creativity.

“Through the Icy Lotus Field” mixed media, 8″ x 8″

I create paintings to express my thankfulness for the blessings in my life, and to spread happiness to others who see them. Even when things are tough, I believe that focusing on joy and gratitude can make a big difference. I hope that my art inspires others to feel the same way.

“My Curious Mind” mixed media on canvas panel, 8″ x 8″

The act of creating art is a reflection of life, with all its emotional ups and downs. Life is hard and it can be messy.  When I am painting, I experience a range of emotions like joy, frustration, triumphs, tragedies, feelings of failure, and elation, all of which are part of life.

I know that if I push through despite the setbacks, I will ultimately produce something meaningful, even if it’s not always beautiful, as long as I don’t give up. This parallel between painting and life is filled with hope.

I enjoy the whole process and pray that my art speaks to people, allowing them to connect with the emotions buried within the layers, hidden beneath the pretty colors.
