I live in Florida where I am inspired by the coastal inspiration all around me, and I love sharing my interpretation of my local paradise with my God-given talent.

I have painted in acrylics, oils and watercolors for years, but alcohol inks has been my main focus since 2016.  I love their vivid color and luminosity. Alcohol ink is a highly addictive medium. It’s all about the color, color, color!

With alcohol inks I typically paint on yupo paper, nara paper or ceramic tile. Often, I have no plan of composition or color when starting a painting. I have no predetermined subject. For many of my paintings, I start by creating an abstract background. Then I move the inks instinctively with canned air or the air from my airbrush, or just simply tilting the painting to let the inks flow.

I love this free, no-pressure playtime of just focusing on color and texture. Once I have developed a pleasingly expressive background, I decide what subject matter best complements that background. I then draw that subject on the background and complete it with a brush. Now I have satisfied both my need for the freedom and the creativity of abstract and also my need for perfection and detail all in one painting. It’s a perfect combination for my art style!

For the past three years, I have been teaching alcohol ink classes at ArtSpace at Nellie’s in Venice, Florida. I love sharing my love for this medium and my techniques with my students.

I have won three awards for my alcohol ink paintings in exhibits at the Venice Florida Art Center and one at Englewood Art Center Ringling School of Art. I’ve been featured in several local magazines including Florida Weekly Magazine and Venice Gulf Coast Living Magazine. My work is available for sale in several Florida galleries and art centers.

I’ve loved art longer than I can remember, apparently. I stopped painting altogether for a few years after a debilitating accident, but returned to my art after discovering my first-grade report card in my mother’s things after she passed away. My first-grade teacher had written “exceptional art ability” on the report card. It was then that I knew in my heart that I must get back to my art to heal. That is when I discovered alcohol inks.

Yes, my art has taken on a high priority, a colorful new beginning!
