I migrated to Australia from the Netherlands with my family many moons ago. After college, I ventured into various creative careers that led me to study Fashion Drawing Design, Arts and Crafts, and General Drawing. This was followed by a Fine Arts Bachelor’s Degree at the SA School of Art.

 

 

I began my artistic career as a painter but was soon seduced by photography as another medium. I explored alternative methods and processes in the darkroom and found my artistic soul. Initially, it was all film and light boxes until the digital world evolved, changing the processes completely as we evolved into cyberspace.

 

 

I cherish that I have learnt and worked in both worlds, analogue and digital, with my photography. The early years gave me creative confidence in framing my subjects, understanding light, and composition. They especially taught me the technical workings of the camera and darkroom.

 

 

It was somewhat nerve-wracking not knowing until the film was processed whether I had successfully captured what was in front of me. But it’s this very uncertainty that also pushed me to understand and learn the technical know-how of the camera to avoid disasters.

 

 

The digital world is indeed fascinating and continues to evolve. In many of my works, I use the technique of collage or overlay, using my shot images of nudes, portraits, and landscapes. I create surreal, colorful, and painterly images that evoke emotion that comes from within, like in dreams and fables.

 

 

I continued my creative energy, having many exhibitions in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, and overseas. I taught art and craft and photography in several institutions and established myself as a successful freelance photographer over this time. And I worked in many art-related industries, including film, theater, music, community events, fashion, etc.

 

 

I recently published from my immense archive, through my company Belle Art, three picture books of my fine art, music, and landscape photography. They are now available through my website. More to come!
