Freedom of Expression

“Freedom of Expression” Canvas print, 18″ x 24″

My name is J.T. Liss and I am a New York City based photographic artist for social change.  Entirely self taught, I have had the opportunity to experiment with many different styles and techniques that have led me to create work that falls in between the realms of street photography and surrealism.

55

“55” Canvas print, 8″ x 10″

I take individual photos and piece them together like a puzzle to tell my story.  Sometimes the concept is first, other times it is not, but the same thought is always present, to make one think.  I believe if a new thought can enter the mind, even for the briefest of moments, then change has a chance.

Graffiti Man

“Graffiti Man” Canvas print, 24″ x 36″

My inspiration comes from a combination of music and my environment.  Living in NYC, one can experience an array of emotions and situations simply by observing and music only enhances those experiences.

Unrequited

“Unrequited” Canvas print, 30″ x 40″

My topics change often.  I could be dealing with the concept of Love and quickly switch to violence or poverty.  It is really up to what I see going on around me, but that is what I love about it.  The human experience is constantly changing and I find that so beautiful.

A Game of Telephone

“A Game of Telephone” Canvas print, 16″ x 20″

Equally important is my passion for helping others.  For the past 8 years I have worked with at risk youth in a variety of settings, most recently as a 4th grade teacher in the Bronx. It has provided me with the perspective that giving back is my ultimate goal in life.

Look Both Ways Before Crossing

Combining my two interests I created J.T. Liss Photography For Social Change, which uses my art as a means to raise awareness and provide monetary aid to organizations who are creating positive social change.
