Explosions of vibrant colors and bold brushstrokes are the trademark of abstract artist Rick Heck. Please visit his website to enjoy more of his colorful art.
When I look at the blank canvasses stacked in my studio, I wonder what passages will emerge, where will the ideas come from and what colors will explode onto the canvas.
This sense of wonderment, expectation and excitement is the core of my passion for painting.
My goal is a very simple one – to make paintings that make me happy and hopefully, in turn, will make the viewer feel a similar way about my creation.
I love strong, bold color and deliver the paint with brushes as well as many unique implements. I am constantly on a quest to find unusual things to manipulate the paint. Hardware stores, kitchen stores and Dollar stores are my playground to search for the magical tools that will enable me to make just the right stroke or convey just the right feeling or mood.
In my painting process, I use brushes and sponges for many smooth areas and washes. I use different spatulas, squeegees, trowels and various other instruments or utensils to attack the canvas and incorporate bold markings.
I continue to add or subtract paint – sometimes soften edges, sometimes decorating with bits of this and that to add texture. The painting is only complete when I stop working on it.
I continue to work each day on finding ways of pouring out my emotions onto the canvas. I look to discover the means of saying what is in my heart and develop a pleasing image.
The flowing paint from my brushes journey through many paths; sometimes the wrong path and correction is needed or I totally start over. This is the beauty of art – pursuing a passage that at first is invisible but then appears right in front of you with some hard work and imagination.
I hope you enjoy my art and it brings smile to your heart.
These would really warm up rooms. My favorite is Miles to Go.
