We all have a story behind our art……this is mine starting in 2013!
I had done the health professional role for decades, but had this burning need to explore and nourish my creative talents. My skills had been put on the back burner while I raised three children, partly as a single mother. My youngest child has just finished her final school year, so now it is time for me!
While I was an undergraduate student I worked as a picture framer and leadlight window designer/manufacturer, so the inventive, imaginative thread was always there in the background and unleashed! I am now in the fantastic position to realise my creative ambitions.
I have attended various art classes but am mainly self-taught. I initially used the front room of my house as my workroom, but rapidly outgrew the space. My beautiful studio is built on a rural property in the hamlet of Aireys Inlet, on the south, surf coast of Victoria, Australia. It is set in a flourishing vegetable garden that I liken to the Australian version of Monet’s garden studio; a tranquil and inspiring space to work. I stand and work on a horizontal surface, interspersing painting with tending my vegetable garden.
I create abstract artworks using inks and resins and base my works on images from the natural, external environment. I am inspired by the sights as I ride my bicycle down the Great Ocean Road, an Australian National Heritage listed stretch of road and one of the great roads in the world!
My artwork evokes in me emotions of pleasure and wonder. My works allow the viewer to use their own imagination to look deep into the artwork and find their own images. Typically, everyone sees something different. Each piece is unique and nonreplicable.
I have developed various series of works. Currently, these series include: Surreal Encounters, Summer Seeds, Birds of Paradise, Cosmos, Burnt Flowers and Inception.
I specialise in commission works. I like to work with clients to produce artworks in their desired colour palette and size/shape. Some clients request abstract artwork of a specific subject, like a dragonfly. The end product can be square, rectangular or a porthole, with black, white or Victorian Ash framing.
I love seeing the homes and offices where my artworks end up.
I plan to keep developing and expanding my own unique works and style to feed my soul, with hope that I can flourish in my practice enabling me to work as a full-time artist in Australia and overseas!
