Drive Art Website Traffic by Blogging

by Carolyn Edlund

Want to draw more visitors to your art website? Consider blogging, which can help your traffic numbers in several ways.

Drive website traffic

As an artist, you have a story that’s interesting to others. You make art or handmade work in your studio (or on location) and can share that process with your audience through photographs, videos and written content.

You can tell your story many ways: through conversations, talks, in marketing materials, or by posting on social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. Many creatives choose to include a blog on their website as well. When regularly maintained, a blog can be an excellent vehicle to engage your audience as you share your artist journey.

The ongoing narrative you share over time deepens the reader’s understanding of you as the artist and complements your visual portfolio. A well-written blog also encourages repeat visits from readers who want to learn more about you and the work you create.

As you add content added through regular blog articles, your website ranking will improve. Search engines regularly crawl websites, noting that material has been added; this tells them the website is active and current. Any keywords you use in your blog posts can also draw traffic from people who are searching online for those terms.

Share links to your blog articles on social media and through email marketing. As readers click those links and visit your site, you have the opportunity to gain readers as subscribers to your blog and also to your email marketing list. Then, refer to those blog posts when you send out email campaigns, pulling your followers back to your website again.

Other options

Your own art website is a perfect location to host blog posts, but is not the only option. Other platforms exist where you can write and publish posts about yourself and share images of your art. Medium is a popular site used by many top writers and publishing articles on many topics. It is a highly visible place to post an article with links back to your site for readers to follow.

Another free and easy place to publish a blog article is Bored Panda. This massive site, which has been around for years, has many articles by artists who share what is amazing about their work. Take a look at their art category to see the types of articles they feature. Getting started there is easy; simply open a free account and use their template to put an article together. Use lots of images of your work to make it even more impactful.

Regardless of where you blog, promoting links to your articles as much as possible will help spread the word and get eyes of your art. Focus on providing compelling information to make each article as interesting, and shareable, as possible.
