“Chinese Garden at the Huntington Library” oil 30″ x 20″

My life has involved a series of transitions based on my life choices and experiences. I never want to stop learning about life and myself and I want to constantly feed my creative self.

Right now, I feel that I am at the height of my artistic ability and producing work that I am in love with. This new work arose during the Covid lockdown. With so much concentrated time in the studio, I gave way to things that had been percolating in my brain for a while, which was abstracting my art images.

During that period, painting was one of the few things that helped me greatly. I had nothing to lose, so I turned my metaphysical tears into drips on the canvas using thinned oil paint. The result was a textured backdrop and a feeling of depth. I then added opaque pieces of beautiful clean color on top of the dried drips. This bright color represented a brighter future, one of recovery and optimism.

These pieces of color would organically become a landscape or floral image. It was a journey, creating something new and different in every painting. Something joyful.

“On A Sunny Afternoon” oil, 36″ x 36″

I have lived my whole life in southern California. Starting out in Los Angeles, I attended a Catholic grammar school called St. Teresa of Avila. Anyone who has ever been to Catholic school in the 50’s or 60’s and was taught by nuns knows they were most often very scary. I tried to stay out of their way because they were strict and punitive. I think that is where my fantasy world started, often escaping into fairy tales and Disney movies. My creative inner soul was developing.

Later we moved to the San Fernando Valley, and I attended a progressive Catholic all girl school called Providence High. By this time, the nuns teaching us were no longer wearing the traditional habit and seemingly were much happier people. I was introduced to religions of the world and formal art classes.

“Field Of My Dreams” oil, 36″ x 48″

This brought me a spiritual awakening and the recognition that what I wanted to do for the rest of my life was art. I went on to study art in college and received my second degree in art at Cal State Northridge.

I ventured into creating many art forms ranging from illustration, background painting for animation and computer art to ultimately making fine art using oil paint. Every past experience has given me a new life and led to who I am today as an artist.
