I am an artist. Wow. Those four words make me very happy. It’s that happy I want you to see in my artwork.

“Flor Amor” mixed media, 32″ x 26″

After 40 years of being immersed in the dog world—grooming and owning my own shop—I decided to cherish the memories, to follow my heart and chase a life-long dream of learning how to paint. I took my first watercolor class in 2015 at 60 years old. Oh, how I loved watching the water and colors melt and blend. It was very therapeutic. I was off and running!

“Love Again” mixed media 18″ x 24″

My art training has consisted of dozens of art classes, courses and workshops. I travel far, I stay regionally and I zoom. I don’t want to miss a thing.

“Summer Romance” alcohol ink and encaustic wax, 12″ x 12″

I’ve become obsessed with learning about all the mediums out there, and I paint and practice every day. Alcohol Inks, encaustic wax, collage, acrylics, oil pastels and soft pastels—I want to try them all. I am most in love with the medium I am learning today, but will be more in love with the one I will try tomorrow.

“Golden Moves” acrylic, 23″ x 19″

Some would call me fickle, but I merely want to paint and soak up as much as I can. The more vivid the hues, the more vibrant the color, the more energy, the more abstractness, the bolder the brush strokes—the more I can express my inner happy. That sway and character is what you get to see.

“What’s Love Got To Do With It” acrylic, 23″ x 19″

My studio is my sanctuary. Here, I’m able to be free and express myself in a way that feels natural, a feeling that has been dormant in me for so many years.

“Violettes In A Vase” mixed media collage, 24″ x 24″

It’s been challenging to find my own voice and expression as I am constantly evolving with my creative process. But is that not the artist’s way? As I move forward in my art journey, I will always be drawn to all the vivid colors, the way my paintings evolve so beautifully and the aliveness of the textures from the layers of paint.

“Vase Life” mixed media, 36″ x 24″

Always inspired by nature, I begin with a thought in my mind. Flowers are a constant theme, but not always. I’m also open to serendipitous moments.

“Life Garden” acrylic, 18″ x 24″

I paint intuitively, always keeping contrasting colors in mind and I am fond of using marks and different shapes. My substrates vary from bristol, yupo and watercolor papers to panel boards and canvas.

My art explores the fine balance between abstraction and realism. Together with my sensitive and expressive heart, you will always know it is a Bonny Butler piece of art.
